Potomac River Jam

The River Jam is rescheduled for Sunday October 25. We're looking ahead to sunnier skies and warmer weather (and lower flow).

Join Potomac Conservancy for our first annual Potomac River Jam - a day-long celebration of the river and canal.

Local musicians will play acoustic sets of Celtic, folk and indie music throughout the afternoon. Enjoy a little sample of the River Center events from this summer, such as a morning bird walk and nature photography session.

Canoe trips over to Minnie's Island will be offered. Bring the kids for face-painting and other activities.  All events are free.

Nature Walks along the C&O Canal
• 8-9 am: Join photographer Joanne Miller for some one-on-one pointers as you capture the sights along the C&O Canal. Bring your favorite camera and a good eye.
• 9-10 am: Catch a glimpse of this fall’s winged wildlife on a morning bird walk with Kelly Fox.
• 10-11 am: Learn about common tree species found in the Potomac River watershed on a “Tree ID” walk with Laura Miller.
• 11 am-12 pm: Hear the history and folklore of common trees, weeds and wildflowers on a medicinal plant walk with Randa Steblez.

Music
After the nature walks, join us from 11:30 am-4 pm for acoustic music sets with local musicians such as Kensington Station. The first set will include children’s songs.

  • 11:30 am – 12:15 pm:  Children’s songs with Rick & Audrey
  • 12:45 – 1:30 pm: Irish Music with Tina Eck and Keith Carr 
  • 1:45 – 2:30 pm:  Kensington Station
  • 2:45 – 3:30 pm:  Tom Verratti

Canoe Rides:
9 am, 12 pm and 2 pm: Take a canoe ride to Minnie’s Island. First come, first served-- sign up at event for a timeslot.
