Islands of the Potomac

Potomac Conservancy owns several islands in the Middle Potomac. These islands are a part of the Potomac Water River Trail. The islands listed below have campsites that are built and maintained for public use by Potomac Conservancy. We ask that all campers and hikers abide by the Leave No Trace principles.

Explore the river on the river!
The Potomac River Water Trail has 49 existing public or commercial launch sites along the 100-mile water trail route. The Trail is a project of the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network. Launch sites provide parking and access to the river. The Conservancy thanks the volunteers who keep these islands free from trash and invasive plants. We also thank Kodak and The Conservation Fund for their support of the Potomac River Water Trail.

Leave No Trace Principles As part of our ongoing effort to preserve the Potomac River Watershed, we ask all users of these campsites to abide by the Leave No Trace Principles. The goal of these principles is to minimize the impact that humans have on wilderness areas through recreational use.
  • Travel and camp on durable surfaces
  • Dispose of waste properly
  • Leave what you find
  • Minimize campfire impacts
  • Respect wildlife
  • Be considerate of other visitors
