"It's my hope that every one of my students feels encouraged to take his or her own initiative to appreciate and protect special local places. I try to instill in them that volunteering for organizations such as the Potomac Conservancy is an important way to do this."

Landowner Testimonial Letter

Potomac Conservancy’s Non-operator Landowner Outreach Program was formed to help landowners like you connect with helpful technical and financial resources to make your vision for your land a reality.

Our Landowner Advisors, Joe Thompson and James Remuzzi, can discuss the many conservation options available in this region and help you identify opportunities on your land.

Joe and James can:

  • meet with you on your property or over the phone to discuss your goals
  • help you identify conservation opportunities on your land
  • help you understand and walk you through the application process and eligibility requirements for a suite of financial assistance programs
  • connect you with the right technical experts to make your goals a reality
  • facilitate conversations between you and your operator if needed

If you prefer to research on your own, you may also peruse this website for a brief look at the many incentive programs and partners that are here to help you through the links below:

Why your Farm Matters

Cool Down a Pollution Hotspot

The priority counties in which we are offering this service have all been identified as pollution hotspots, primarily for nitrogen and phosphorous (see map). Nutrient pollution in these areas primarily originates on farms where manure and excess fertilizer runs off the land during rain events or where cattle are allowed direct access to streams.

Excess pollution can be prevented, however, through simple conservation measures such as planting riparian buffers and grass filter strips, using cover crops and fencing cattle out of streams. Our landowner advisors can help you select the programs that will best help you to improve the value of your land - sometimes even at a profit to you! Contact Joe or James today to get started!
