"It's my hope that every one of my students feels encouraged to take his or her own initiative to appreciate and protect special local places. I try to instill in them that volunteering for organizations such as the Potomac Conservancy is an important way to do this."

National River Cleanup 2008

May 31, 2008 9:00 amtoJune 8, 2008 1:00 pm

Every year millions of tons of trash end up in our nation’s rivers and streams. You can help do your part to keep our rivers trash-free by signing up for National River Cleanup 2008. Since the launch of this annual event in 1991, more than 600,000 volunteers have participated in thousands of cleanups across the country, covering more than 100,000 miles of waterways. These cleanups have removed more than 1,000 tons of litter and debris from America’s rivers and streams. National River Cleanup  2007 was the most successful year to date, with more organizers and cleanups than ever before, in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This year’s event officially kicks-off May 31 through June 8. Go to www.americanrivers.org/cleanup to join a cleanup or organize one of your own!
